Points, planes & graphs

Two numbers make a point. A rule that turns x into y draws a picture.

Module 2 · 0/9 done

Two number lines make a map

Take one number line going left–right and another going up–down, crossing at 0. Now every spot on the flat page has an address: how far right (called xx) and how far up (called yy). We write the address as (x,y)(x, y) — always x first.

This is the coordinate plane, invented by René Descartes so that shapes could be described with numbers. Every chart you’ll ever read is one.

ChallengeIn progress
Drag the point to the address (3,−2)(3, -2): three steps right, two steps down.

Complete the challenge above to continue.
